Sparkling Entertainment

The Flatwater / Haymarket co-production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest gets better and better. The characterizations have become still richer, the satiric barbs even more delicious, and the comic timing just extraordinary.

Rob Burt and Nathan Weiss are absolute charmers as Jack Worthing and Algernon Montcrief, aristocratic friends who discover they both are experts at leading double lives.

Petrea Whittier and Maya Naff show steely resolve behind the graceful poise of Gwendolyn Fairfax and Cecily Cardew, the ladies with whom Jack and Algernon fall in love.

Charlotte Akin is priceless as the imposing Lady Bracknell.

Margy Ryan is the haplessly respectable Miss Prism, Cecily’s governess. Tom Crew is the learned but sentimental Reverend Chasuble. Tom Bolin is invaluable as Algernon’s valet and as Jack’s butler, who is assisted by Margery Dunkle as Cecily’s maid.

Bob Hall supplies superb direction and a sly design (look for Oscar Wilde on the set). Jeanne Marlette contributes impressively proper costumes.

Don’t miss this sparkling entertainment!
