Actors Wanted for Flatwater Shakespeare's 2019 Season!

Auditions for Flatwater Shakespeare Company's 2019 Season will be held at Turbine Flats, 2124 Y Street in Lincoln, on Sunday January 13, from 3 to 7 p.m., and on Monday January 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. Visit www.flatwatershakespearecompany.org or Flatwater Shakespeare's Facebook page and follow the links to reserve a space in an hour-long time slot.

Actors should prepare a one-minute monologue from one of Shakespeare's comedies. Printed monologues will be available for cold readings. Do not adopt an accent – your own voice can do the job. Actors will also be asked to do some improv exercises in small groups. Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time in order to complete audition forms. Please bring a current photo and also a theater resume, if you have one ready. All casting types are invited and encouraged. If you are wondering whether you are the right color, shape, or size for these productions, the answer is "Yes." Every person who auditions will be considered.

The roles of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth have been cast but all other roles are available. Callbacks for individual shows will be announced later.

The season begins with The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield. Three actors play dozens of roles in this romp through the Shakespearean canon. The show will be directed by Paul Durban and performed at The Mill Coffee & Bistro at Nebraska Innovation Campus, March 14-17 and March 21-24. Rehearsals are planned for February and March.

FSC's summer “Short Shakespeare” production for 2019 is The Two Gentlemen of Verona. A seventy-five minute version of Shakespeare's first romantic comedy will be directed by Patsy Koch-Johns. On June 6-9 and June 13-16, the play will be presented at the Swan Theatre in The Stables at Wyuka. June 19-23, the company visits Lincoln parks and other venues for this year's Flatwater FREE Shakespeare tour. Rehearsals start in late April and go through May into June.

The season concludes with William Shakespeare's Macbeth, directed by FSC's Founding Artistic Director, Bob Hall. Performances are September 26-29, October 3-6, and October 10-13 at the Swan Theatre in The Stables at Wyuka. Rehearsals begin in August and go until late September.

All actors appearing in Flatwater Shakespeare Company productions receive compensation.

*The Tempest* for Network Television

A charming TV adaptation of *The Tempest* from 1960.

Directed by George Schaefer, it features Maurice Evans as Prospero and Roddy McDowall as Ariel (who both would later work together in *Planet of the Apes*); Lee Remick appears as Miranda, Tom Poston as Trinculo, and Richard Burton (!) as Caliban.

Watching the opening exchange between Ariel and Prospero, we finally caught Shakespeare's sly allusion to Puck and Oberon in *Dream*: "made thee no mistakings"! McDowall's Ariel longs for human interaction almost as much as he longs for freedom -- characterizations and themes and situations later explored in Wim Wenders's *Wings of Desire*.
